Job Description

W.G. Spencer Engineering is currently looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented, energetic, and highly organized hands on New Graduate – Electrical Engineering to maintain and support our industry-leading products and systems in the areas of Mine Hoist Application and Specialty Equipment.

The Electrical Engineer will work across a variety of functional groups that are directly involved in Project Management, PLC Control, Machine Design, Failure Analysis, Troubleshooting and Commissioning of New Installations.  A high degree of involvement with the latest automation and computer control systems is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The primary area will be automation, networks and HMI screen integration into control systems.
  • Participate in the design, specification, tendering and onsite supervision for final installation and commissioning
  • Participate in the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems
  • Participate in multi-discipline teams to solve problems (Complex Troubleshooting, Task Analysis Meetings, Technical Operability Evaluations, Engineering Evaluations, Root Cause Investigations, Internal and External Audits, etc.)
  • Participate in the development or enhancement to design management and engineering change control programs and procedures
  • Participate in projects in an economical and timely manner ensuring adherence to quality control requirements
  • Assist in the liaison between W.G. Spencer Engineering personnel, technical groups, and outside contractors
  • Ensure compliance with site standards and all government and corporate regulations in the area of safety, health, and environment for all projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of University degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or College diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong presentation and analytical skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Effective planning, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under short deadlines
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving abstract
  • Able to travel outside of Canada

ASSETS

  • Enrolled (or to be) as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and working towards registering as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • AutoCAD skills
  • Automation and programming skills
  • Excellent computer skills working with MS Office and other programs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical guidance for installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems;
  • Develop engineering project schedules, budgetary estimates, cost, and scheduling reports;
  • Lead or participate in multi-discipline teams to solve problems (Complex troubleshooting, Task Analysis Meetings, Technical Operability Evaluations, Engineering Evaluations, Root Cause Investigations, Internal and External Audits, etc.);
  • Lead or participate in development or enhancement to design management and engineering change control programs and procedures;
  • Manage and control projects in an economical and timely manner ensuring adherence to quality control requirements;
  • Act as liaison between W.G. Spencer Engineering personnel, technical groups, and outside contractors;
  • Ensure compliance with site standards and all government and corporate regulations in the area of safety, health, and environment for all capital projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of University degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada(P.Eng.);
  • 10 + years experience as an Electrical Engineer;
  • Experience with PLC automation and application of same and related networks;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong presentation and analytical skills;
  • Effective planning, project management, and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under short deadlines;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving abstract.

ASSETS

  • PMP Certification
  • Drive systems knowledge of DC and/or VFD for electric motors
  • Experience within the mining industry
